Guide to Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport
Bangkok International Airport (also known locally as Suvarnabhumi Airport) is a new airport which opened in 2006 after years of plannning. This new airport is now much larger and more modern than the previous Bangkok airport. Home to Thai Airways International, Orient Thai Airlines, Thai Air Asia and Bangkok Airways, the airport is located in the Bang Phli district, about sixteen miles from Bangkok.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is Bankok’s primary airport for all international flights and is the busiest airport in Asia. Connection to Bangkok is via a new motorway which goes via Bangkok’s industrial heartland.
The airport has two parallel runways and can accommodate departures and arrivals at the same time. The main passenger terminal handles forty-five million passengers per year
and three million tonnes of cargo.
There is a 600-room Novotel in the airport and parking for five thousand cars in two multi-storey car parks. An underground train service between Bangkok and the airport is currently being constructed.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is served by four express bus routes that go to downtown Bangkok. The buses have plenty of space for luggage and they are air-conditioned:
